Introducing The India China Newsletter

I’m Ananth Krishnan, a journalist who covers China, works for The Hindu newspaper, and is the author of the book “India’s China Challenge” published by HarperCollins in September 2020.

I’ve been reporting from China since 2009 and am currently based in India, waiting, like many other China-based correspondents, to return to Beijing to resume reporting from there, which I hope to in 2021.

This free-to-read newsletter, which I started on January 1, 2021, goes out a couple of times every week, usually Tuesday through Friday.

Follow the newsletter for my latest reports and for a fresh perspective on the most important developments in China, with a focus on the India-China relationship.

The newsletter will track and analyse for you what’s unfolding on the India-China front — one of the most consequential, but least understood, relationships — but by no means will be limited only to the bilateral relationship. The newsletter will also analyse the broader context of political, economic and social developments unfolding in China, and ask what they mean for India, and for the world. I will track the buzz on what’s happening in China, watch what Chinese media and social media are saying — the debates can be more lively than you’d imagine! — and try and put all of that in a useful perspective for you.
